Frequency Response for the Grado SR 325is

The Grado SR325is remains at the top of the Grado 'Prestige Series' line. They have a very lively-sounding tone with bright highs and focused mids riding above a cleanly punchy bass response that offers improved low-end heft versus the original SR325. The uppermost highs are extremely finely detailed, which many critical listeners find quite revealing, if not somewhat forward, during long listening sessions. Overall, they deliver an intricate and dynamic musical presentation that can ocassionally veer towards slightly "peaky" with overly bright recordings or poor audio sources. The SR325is can be powered by most portable audio players like iPods, iPads and MP3 players, but we typically recommend portable listeners and serious audiophiles get a dedicated quality headphone amp to fully maximize the excellent sonic potential offered by these cans. In particular, a tube-stage headphone amp could be an ideal partner to the SR325is, nicely rounding the sharp corners of the Grado's precision-edge timbre for those wanting an extra bit of tonal warmth in their sound. If you enjoy the galvanizing presentation of Grado's signature "front row" sound, the SR325is headphone will offer a brilliant extension of the immersive, robustly well-detailed musicality on which they've built their reputation.

Boss bright aluminum outer grill design on the Grado SR325is earcups is unique to this model and offers some cool added bling factor. The SR325is design is well-engineered with the element drivers matched to .05dB and voice coils made of Grado's proprietary ultra-high purity, long-crystal, oxygen-free copper wiring. This recent "IS" model improves the element material and provides a better cord design with sturdier housing for drivers, all resulting in the best audio performance yet for the venerable SR325 series. The upgraded headphone cord is a straight (but fairly short) 6.5-ft length, attaches to both earcups in a 'Y' design, and is also made of this excellent high-definition 'Prestige' proprietary copper audio cabling. The SR325is continue Grado Lab's venerable tradition of made-in-the-USA quality, as well as the slight tendency to be a bit uncomfortable due to the foam mesh earpads--which can be alleviated by gently bending the headband to better conform to the top of the head. The available Grado Labs 'soft' style headphone earpads [$15 'S-Cush' earpads; sold separately] may also help tame the comfort issue for some wearers. The headphones have the usual Grado Labs flexible pleather-covered headband and metal height adjusters connecting the SR325is' shiny aluminum silver [NOT gold!] earcups to the headband, which allows for up & down adjustment plus full 360 degree rotation. This feature is ideal for laying the headphones down flat or for storage & traveling. The SR325is high-quality OFC headphone cable comes terminated to a full-size 1/4" inch stereo plug. No adapter is included for small iPod/iPad and computer jacks.

If you need to plug into a 1/8" [3.5mm] mini-jack on your audio source/player, you'll need the Grado 1/4"-to-1/8" mini-plug adapter. If needing a longer cord reach, the Grado Labs 15ft headphone extension cord is recommended. The 1-year manufacturer's product warranty remains standard on the Grado SR325is which is serviced exclusively by Grado Labs at their Brooklyn NY USA facility.

killer sound

Recommend Product: No
Pros: Oh, the detail and Bass extension,
Cons: Burn in, need mod for L-Cush foam.

These can be very bright around 2500Hz vs. SR225/125/60 and they want to be further off the ear then my SR 225's/60's,.. These have so much more detail in the high end. It is really cleaned up. But very forward. And "bright" This "brightness" isnot the same as when breaking in my 2 previous Grado's. The leading edge of the 2500Hz spike is serious and "burn in" does not alleviate... I do not know when "burn in" begins or ends with Grado. They need to be" as listened to" for anything to happen. Just plugging them in to a source and letting them play without a "Head" on the other end is minimal. I spent a good month ... not "burning in" before things really became apparent as to the true potential of these. ..DYI Grado (the most modified headphones ever made, from foam to air flow to Woodies) The bass extension is achieved through the dampening from the heavy aluminum outer shell. This is dependent on a good fit.... I have had these about one year now and I finally found the right mod for the L-Cush foam to work. I am used to the peculiarities of the different Grado's so I don't mind having to re-voice. (all the fiddling around with this and that on the Grado's is re-voiced)(Grado voices their Canz by EAR...) I will only recommend these for Grado fans. They are a big step up from 225 for only 100 bucks more. Again, great detail and bass extension. Heavy solid build, they need that critical mass. Keep them a little further of the ear so the brightness is under control, At least keep new foam pads if mod does not suit you. I have a ring of felt around the outer part of L-Cush pads to keep them from collapsing and off the ear . And this helps to keep the bass inside were it really wants to be. Oiu' Grado!!! the most Gado! sounding Grado's I have owned . Grado fans will love. Others will hate. (Tyle) ... Fuck Yah!!! Grado!!!

P.S. These will separate audio file formats acoustically, with abundant distinction. CD's ripped to lossless codec for retaining Detail will be appreciated, whilst 128k Mp3/4/AAC
files stand out as constrained musically.
Source is really more noticeable, now
.

One word.. "Wow!"

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Great sound, very comfortable, sturdy construction, long cable
Cons: Have yet to find one.

I've been using a pair of Ultimate Ears Super-fi 5 Pro earphones for a few years now which sound amazing but can become uncomfortable to wear for extended periods of time even with foam tips so wanted to get a pair of headphones instead. After several days of reading reviews about various headphones (Sennheiser, Shure, Grado, etc.) in the price range I decided to try this pair and am glad I did. I love the almost vintage style of the phones and the construction is outstanding. When taking them out of the box and listening to them initially the highs were a bit brassy and the lows almost not audible. So I set them down on the table and let them burn-in for about half a day and was amazed at how much they opened up. The brassiness was completely gone and the lows had really opened up. They're not completely burned-in yet but the sound is already outstanding for all of the types of music I listen to (rock, classical, and jazz). For me the headphones are extremely comfortable and a perfect fit and am able to listen to music for a much longer period of time than my earbuds allow me to. I can't wait to try them on my AVR when I get the chance (currently in storage due to extreme flooding in the area).

On a side note Headroom's customer service has been outstanding. I purchased the Grado 1/4 to 1/8 converter but received the Cardas converter with a 90° elbow which the Grado doesn't have. This elbow however didn't work for all of my devices since it blocks needed ports. I contacted Headroom and they immediately sent out the correct item without issue which I should receive next week along with prepaid return shipping. Even though the headphones became out of stock during the order processing and had to wait an additional week for them to ship and I had to change the shipping address in an emergency, the entire order process from Headroom has been great and they have kept me well informed during the entire process. Will definitely come back for future business.

My favorite headphones

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Good Value, Exceptional Clarity, Build Quality
Cons: Not as comfortable as the Sennheiser HD650s

I owned the Grado SR80s for a few years before buying the SR325s. I also own the Sennheiser HD650s, and from listening to the HD650s is where I find the only slight flaw with the SR325s. I have no problem wearing both the HD650s and SR325s for hours on end, but in the end I find that when I'm done listening to something I tend to put the SR325s around my neck while the HD650s just stay on my head. It's not that they are uncomfortable, it's just that they aren't as comfortable as the HD650s.

At night during a long listening session I'll listen to multiple albums back to back and enjoy every minute with the SR325s. When I do the same thing listening to the HD650s, I find myself missing tracks due to the occasional napping while listening to the HD650s. Both of these headphones have amazing sound and I like them both, but IMO the SR325s are more engaging.

If I had to chose one set of headphones, I'd chose the SR325s.
