Top Ten Under $500 Widely regarded as the top affordable headphone, the Grado SR60i is a superb choice for listeners seeking amazing sound at a great price. It's hard to imagine any music fan would be disappointed hearing these unassuming yet potent cans. The SR60i may look retro, but the performance is right up to date with a cheerful, balanced tone on both portable and home gear.

Applications:

Long considered the headphone to beat in the competitive 'under-$80' category, the SR60i competes as "The Best Headphones Ever" at this price. These on-ear (supra-aural) open-back cans deliver a smooth, liquid-sounding midrange and engaging detail in the highs along with a clean, punchy bass response. The sole quibble is a slightly 'sparkly' sound in the uppermost treble ranges rather than the silky top-end of extremely well-extended -- and certainly MUCH pricier! -- audiophile headphones. A few customers mention that the foam earpad comfort can be a fit issue, but gently bending the headband to conform more closely to the top of the head helps alleviate that for most wearers. The style thing is another matter: use the SR60i with an uber-hip iPad or iPhone and you may be busted by the vigilant Fashionista Police. All kidding aside, this is a really enjoyable, musical headphone that almost every listener could appreciate -- and the price sure is right.

Like all Grado Labs headphones, the SR60i is an 'open' earcup design providing no isolation from outside ambient noise. By the same token, others could potentially hear "leakage" from open-back headphones when listening in quiet places or when someone's sitting nearby (i.e, libraries, workplace cubicles, late night listening, etc,.). Choose from our many closed/sealed-back headphones if listening privacy and isolation are needed for your particular situation.

A study in effective minimalist design, the Grado SR60i has a very basic flexible vinyl headband with simple metal height adjusters that connect the earpieces to the headband, thus allowing for up & down adjustment plus complete 360 degree earpiece rotation. This feature is ideal for laying the headphones down flat -- perfect for packing them in a briefcase or backpack. The SR-60i are very efficient & well-driven by portable players or inexpensive home equipment. The straight headphone cord measures roughly 7.5ft from the earcups to the plug tip, exits both earcups in a "Y" design, and terminates to a 1/8" (3.5mm) 'mini' plug. A 1/4" full-size stereo plug adapter handily comes provided with the SR60i cord. The free 1-year SR60i product warranty is directly handled exclusively by Grado Labs, the manufacturer, located in Brooklyn, NY only with your HeadRoom 'Grado authorized dealer' purchase receipt!

Yes, they are that good
Posted by ListenZero from San Jose, CA on 2014-02-12

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Great sound, great value
Cons: Not so pretty, open design not for everyone

I've had one pair of these for over 10 years. I've even replaced the ear cups once. They still have superior sound compared to anything remotely in their price range. I can listen to them for hours on end without fatigue. For the price you can't go wrong, assuming you're listening in an environment where open headphones are appropriate.

Fantastic bargin

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Price, Sound Quality
Cons: Foam, comfort for long listening sessions, eternally loud

I bought these because they were in the top 10 best headphones under $100 and I wasn't disappointed. The only main drawback would be that I can't wear them at work because they emit alot of sound to the environment. Also, the foam disintegrates fairly quickly.

Unbelievable sound for the price!
Posted by Xylin6 from Yuma,Az. on 2013-09-28

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Phenomenal Sound,Light Wieght,Retro Look
Cons: Cord design could use some improvement

After reading rave reviews for the SR60i (and other Grado headphones) not only at Head-Fi,yet all across the internet I just had to find out what all the excitement was about and so for the first time in my life I spent more than $30 on a pair of headphones, and boy am I ever glad I did!

What's funny is,when they first arrived (back in 2010),I was not at all blown away with the over all sound because I had only ever owned various less expensive headphones the majority of which had these fake forced bass frequencies which my ears had become accustomed to and also because the Grados didn't seem anywhere near as loud through my mp3 Walkman or my CD player as the less expensive phones I owned which baffled me at the time, but still,I was determined to give them a chance since I had read about the need to burn them in to get the best sound quality from them.

and what I discovered was that after roughly 100 hours of burn in not only did the sound quality keep improving, but the headphones cushions began to soften up and thus brought my ears closer to the drivers which added significantly more volume,by my second week listening to my SR60i's non stop I was telling everyone I knew (and sometimes complete strangers) to get a pair of SR60i's and when i went back and listened to my older headphones I couldn't believe how poor they sounded by comparison.

I have owned my SR60i's for three and a half years now and love them every bit as much,if not more than when i first got them, the sound is very warm and for the most part neutral and yet with the slightest adjustments of eq on my sony mp3 walkman they can reveal the most incredible bass prowess (specifically on electronic music) and still retain full clear forward sounding mid range and slightly rolled off highs (though not too much,in fact it makes them more forgiving on lesser quality mp3 files) , and they are perfect for any kind of music from classic rock to black metal to funk to jazz to techno to alternative rock.and if you do crave more sparkle in the higer registers then for another twenty dollars the SR80i (which i picked up a few months ago) are just what you need.strange thing is,I actually prefer my SR60i over the SR80i ,yet I love both.just remember that when they are first burning in you may experience some sibilance (at times almost piercing, though generally not) yet once they are burned in,you will rarely if ever experience that again.or at least this has been my experience both with the SR60i and SR80i.

my only complaint would be that over time because of the way the gimbles which hold the earphone cups rotate a full 360 degrees ,eventually the cables twist and inevitably you will begin to lose either the left or right channel. more often than not the cord becomes frayed at the Y connector (the plastic piece where it goes from a straight cord to the Y shape up to the right and left side) to prevent this some people actually glue the gimbles, although a much better idea is to go to a place like towerhobbies and order a 4pack of 1/8" plated wheel collars which slide onto the gimble(s) (one above the rod lock, one below it) and can be tightened using the included allen wrench with the small screws that are also included) thus preventing the gimbles from moving and cords twisting.

the good news is even if your wires start to cut out past the warranty date (as mine did),Grado will repair or replace the cords for you for only $25 (this includes the price of them shipping them back to you).so all in all Grados are not only the best bang for your buck sound quality wise, but are sold in America by a stand up family company.for all these reasons I cannot recommend these highly enough.best $79 i ever spent!
