For hip-hop, rock fans and urban music enthusiasts, the Sennheiser HD228 headphones are sweet replacement cans for your iPod/ iPhone, iPad, MP3 device, portable DVD player, or laptop computer without any heavy wallet lifting required. Characterized by a full punchy bass response alongside a smooth and laid back upper mid-range & highs, this is a good can for bass lovers who don't want any harshness in their tunes. Sennheiser's newly-engineered lightweight, flexible headband construction is another design plus that allows anyone to wear this mobile-oriented headphone comfortably for hours at a time without worries of an overly-tight clamping force getting in the way of your musical enjoyment. The small earpieces rotate 90 degrees for flat storage in drawer or briefcase, and also make these headphones comfortable just dangling around your neck.

The HD228 is offered in a stylish dark gloss black with chrome-flashing look that is slick but not overstated so it doesn't attract too much undue attention. The HD228's small supra-aural sealed-back [aka 'closed'] earpads typically will rest gently on the outer part of the earlobes and deliver effective ambient noise attenuation of around minus -8dB ~ -10dB on average. The earpads will rotate flat for ease of transit or storage. The HD228's singled-sided cable exits from the left earcup and terminates to a mini-plug 3.5mm (1/8") jack about 4ft later. However, NO full-size 1/4" adapter is included in the package. A 2-year product warranty remains standard with all Sennheiser headphones.

Waste of Money
Posted by Lucius from Columbus, Ohio on 2012-04-10

Recommend Product: No
Cons: Poor value, poor sound, poor quality

I love my high end Sennheiser headphones, so I bought the HD 228 to use with mp3 player, Walkman, etc. Big disappointment. The sound is muddy. The components are cheap (mini plug bent after a couple of weeks of moderate use). I have a pair of 12 year old $9 Sony headphones that I'm using instead. . The $9 are less comfortable (a little bent up after a decade of use), but they sound much better and have held up for years.

Headroom is a great company and I would gladly buy other products from them. This is my first disappointing purchase after a string of good experiences.

Decent sound, terrible durability
Posted by Jazzman24 from New Jersey on 2010-11-10

Recommend Product: No
Pros: Bass is very clear, mid and high are not distorted, comfortable, price
Cons: not very durable, wires in cord are easily loosened after short time

I have been through two of these headphones in only a year. As far as sound went, I was satisfied. Sennheiser's claims about the "explosive bass" were pretty much correct, and the Mid and High ranges weren't too bad either. However, these headphones are NOT strong. Within two months, the headphone jack had bent and the sound either played only in one ear or not at all. Not only that, the cord was not very strong, so the wires would loosen easily, having the same affect on the sound. Unless you are INSANELY careful with headphones like these, I do not suggest getting them. There are much better choices.

Great Office Headphones
Posted by be_thermal from Belgrade, MT on 2010-07-20

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Lightweight, good base response at low volumes, smooth highs

These are great for the office environment where-in you may want to be able to monitor the "goings on" in the office while enjoying quality personal music. I've worn other light headsets that do the same however loose sound clarity and balance at lower volumes. The pads are also comfortable on my ears, and the band allows for my large head.
