The Sennheiser RS 135 RF 'Generation 2' wireless headphone system is a simple, easy-to-use design with impressively clear audio fidelity. Just plug the RS135 base station into the rear panel 'audio output' from your TV or surround receiver and - voila' - wire-free listening is all yours.
Knowing how poorly most wireless TV headphone systems we've tried have performed in the past, we'll admit to being slightly apprehensive when Sennheiser released the RS 135 model. Would they be able to maintain the same success as with their upscale wireless headphone products at this nice 'entry level' price?
Our conclusion: Yes indeed!
The Sennheiser RS 135 RF headphone system sounds quite good for such an inexpensive wireless design with a very solid transmission range distance of 300ft. It includes a nifty base station transmitter that automatically recharges the headphones when placed on the stand.
The only potential drawback with these wireless headphones is they are an open-earcup design, so you will probably be able to hear the spouse vacuuming or that noisy street traffic outside your window. Other than that, the Sennheiser RS135 wireless headphones gets our hearty Headphone.com review recommendation. At this within-reach price, we have simply not found anything that is better.
The RS 135 is a well-constructed pair of over-the-ear headphones, meaning the earcups will rest gently on the outside part of the earlobes. The RS-135 earpad cushions are made of a soft and comfortable velour fabric material and the headband padding is nicely positioned to prevent “hot spots” on top of your head during longer listening sessions.
The headband frame contains two tiny metal plates between the pads that serve to make contact with the base station’s headphone hanger and provide the electrical connections needed to charge the wireless headphones Just simply hang the cans on the base station and, voila', they instantly start charging.
The headphone controls are simple and include volume, transmission tuning and an on/off switch. The base station itself has no controls. Simply place the headphones on the hanger, they will charge automatically and an LED light glows green to indicate full charging status. The Sennheiser RS-135 headphones can permanently store and charge on the included base station.
When you connect the base station to any TV audio line-out, it immediately begins transmitting when it auto-detects the presence of an input signal. With a range of over 300 ft., you can use this system nearly anywhere throughout the house.
Additional RS 135 RF headphones [i.e., Sennheiser HDR 120 unit] are available sold separately, so you can have two listeners from one single RS 135 base station if desired.
Please note some new flat-screen TVs may only offer a 'Digital' or 'Optical' audio output connection. If you own a newer TV, you may want to consider upgrading to the Sennheiser RS 175 model if your television is equipped with just Digital audio outputs only.
This Sennheiser RS 135 RF system does NOT have any Digital/Optical connection ability and connects to a TV only via an 'Analog' mini cable included in the RS-135 RF package. The short video below helps explain the RS135 (RS 120) hook-up method!
