The tonal presentation of the Sennheiser RS 165 system is very clear so speech and TV dialogue becomes plainly audible. There is also a 'Bass Boost' feature that adds thump for film sound effects. However, we typically recommend listeners looking for maximum speech and dialogue clarity leave the Bass Boost turned off since it can sometimes muddy the dialogue detail.
The closed-back design of the Sennheiser RS-165 earcups provides good noise isolation so the sound from the headphones does not "leak" out into the room. The sealed earcup type also helps to isolate the headphone user from the TV speakers or from other ambient environmental noise in the room.
The Sennheiser RS-165 headphones are quite comfortable and feel remarkably lightweight on the head. The large oval earcups fit completely around the ears on most wearers. Overall, we feel the solid construction, signal transmission range and sound quality performance of the RS165 is top-notch for the TV headphone category.
The free 2 year manufacturer's warranty from Sennheiser when purchased via true authorized dealers - like us here at headphone.com since 1995! - completes your nice feeling of wireless headphone peace of mind.
How To Connect Sennheiser RS-165 Wireless Headphones To Your TV
The RS-165 base transmitter unit will connect to the 'Audio Output' plug from your TV. The RS 165 package includes a mini (1/8" / 3.5 mm) audio cable to connect to the analog 'mini' output, if your TV provides that connection.
If your TV, receiver or cable/satellite box has stereo (dual) RCA audio outputs, you may want to consider a high-quality cable adapter like this Female Mini to RCA Cable or the cheaper HeadRoom Female Mini to RCA Adapter. The Sennheiser RS-165 headphone system does NOT include RCA interconnect cables.
Some new TVs may only have a Digital/Optical audio output. If that's the case, you may want to consider moving up to the excellent Sennheiser RS 175 model since it has these Digital/Optical connections built-in to the RS-175 base unit. This RS-165 model does NOT offer any digital input connections.
Like all the other models in the 'RS' wireless line, the Sennheiser RS-165 base also doubles as a charging stand for the headphones. For an extra headphone so two people can listen at the same time (with their own headphone volume control), get the Sennheiser HDR 165 headphone along with this RS 165 system for a complete 2-person listening setup!
