The hard-wired, non-detachable cord on the HD 2.20 S extends about 4.5 ft and terminates to a right-angled 3.5mm mini-plug. The folding headphone frame design is a very lightweight dark grey/black plastic that appears extremely durable and well-built with solid hinges and a sliding earcup mechanism providing easy fit adjustability for a wide variety of head sizes and shapes. The soft flexible headband is lightly padded for good wearing comfort. It's a surprisingly comfortable, easy-to-fit headphone for the often ergonomically fickle on-ear category.
Despite the smaller on-ear dimensions of the Sennheiser HD 220 S, most of our headphone.com reviewers were able to obtain a stable, secure fit on the head that allowed for excellent portable and active use without fear the cans would suddenly slip off the head. Given the pleasantly non-squeezing clamping force of the headband, we have to give kudos to the Sennheiser materials lab for the excellent execution of the HD 2 20 S highly comfortable fit.
Sonically, the Sennheiser HD 2.20 S presentation is impressively clean and rich with strong emphasis on the low-mids designed to warm up chilly low-bitrate online music files from streaming services or YouTube. The clarity in the treble ranges is excellent for this headphone type and price and it avoids sharp glare or harshness in favor of a slightly rolled-off, pleasantly rounded tone that still manages to convey good detail and musical body without a restricted or muffled sense of extension. We could maybe ask for more well-centered midranges where we hear the vocals slightly tending to fall back into the mix with certain recordings, but as the song goes, you can't always get what you want - at least not for $69 bucks!
The Sennheiser HD 2.20 S on-ear headphones are rated at 26 Ohms and 112dB sensitivity so they'll play loud and proud from any smartphone or other music-playing device you plug them into. The strong 2-year Sennheiser manufacturer's product 'repair or replace' warranty covers you in case of any issues only when proof-purchased from true authorized Sennheiser dealers - like us right here at headphone.com since 1995!
