This Cardas headphone replacement cable features a full-size 1/4" plug connector built by Cardas Audio. "Special-order" terminations of your choice are also available by calling HeadRoom; However, please keep in mind all 'special-orders' are NOT eligible for HeadRoom return or exchange. Unlike many other high-end replacement cables, Cardas custom heat-molds the connectors individually and uses a proprietary four-conductor cable to dramatically reduce the number of solder joints needed in their design. Cardas Audio headphone replacement cables are also available in 15' and 20' lengths if needed. You can also order balanced/XLR Cardas Audio headphone cable sets for our HeadRoom Balanced Desktop Amp. Another great Cardas headphone cable replacement available as a "stock" product is a short-run Cardas Mini-Plug Replacement Cable featuring a 3.5mm (1/8") mini-plug termination perfect for iPods, laptop/PC computers, for portable-use, on-the-go listening, and near-field applications -- like at your desktop workstation. FYI!: To quickly replace the headphone cables of your HD580, HD600, or HD650, simply pull the stock cable connectors straight out from the earcups with a firm tug and then insert the replacement cable with the Cardas nautilus shell logo facing outwards [towards the outside of the earcups]. DO NOT TWIST THE CORD PLUGS DURING REMOVAL!

Pros: Removes the infamous Sennheiser "veil"; High quality construction
Cons: Price; Somewhat microphonic; Installation was more difficult than anticipated
I can confidently say that this cable met my needs. Not only did the cable increase the resolution and speed across the spectrum, it also made me aware of the "veil" that crazy audiophiles disdain over--vocals (especially female) and other upper-mid / lower-high sounds came forward in the sound stage, giving the HD650s a much more exciting presentation without significantly increasing fatigue; indeed, the sound stage itself was expanded to a degree, allowing the music to further envelope the listener. This could either be a pro or a con, as the removal of this "veil" and extension of the sound stage fundamentally alters the laid back style of the HD650s. Cymbals also provide more of the "crash and wash" they are typically associated with, whereas before they sounded slightly blunt and less extended.
Another area of improvement worth noting is that the cable tamed the HD650s tendency to cloud the lower bass frequencies with its overemphasized bass. The bass is now tight, deep, and fully expressed without any perceived muddiness, yet the impact is still strong as with the stock cable.
Unfortunately, there are some downsides to this cable. First and foremost is the price--for the amount of perceived increase in quality, the cable is very steeply priced, which is the primary reason why I decided to retract one star. If you plan on moving around with this cable hooked up, you may feel slightly limited by its inflexibility when compared to the stock cable. Another draw back to more mobile / fidgety listeners is that any brush against a rigid object results in a slightly distracting, microphonic behavior; however, this behavior is not nearly as pronounced as in some other aftermarket cable offerings for the HD650s. The only other problem I had with this cable was the lack of clear and understandable instructions on installation. It took a bit of guess work on my part (and a little insight from HeadRoom's product description) to finally figure out which termination was left and right.
Overall, the Cardas Cable offered a very pleasant change in audio quality which turned out to be exactly what I was hoping to achieve with the HD650s. Now I can truly appreciate all the intricacies revealed by my equipment, and I am no longer a skeptic of the difference a cable can make to a headphone's sound signature.
