Headphones
Grado iGrado Black
These cool little cans make a dandy upgrade for your portable player. With a warm bass and smooth overall sound, your ears will thank you as the iGrados round out any harshness lurking in your tunes and player source. The behind the neck "neckband" type of headband design is nice for those wanting to wear a hat or keep from mussing up your hair. Open-back earpieces allows you to remain aware of outside sounds while listening, a giant plus on hectic city streets.

Applications:
Renowned for their cool looks and lively rock n'roll sound, buzz is all agog about Brooklyn's venerable Grado Labs joining with hipster street culture to create the portable iGrado headphone. Featuring a non-adjustable 'neckband' ('behind the neck') headband design and highly efficient sensitivity ratings, the iGrado are designed for active folks listening on the fly to iPods, MP3 players, iPads and laptop computers. These have a somewhat smoother signature sound than most other Grado cans with clean highs and good bass response given the limitations of the neckband construction. Indeed, the iGrado have become the darlings of headphone hobbyists who have devised ingenious "improvements" to the headphone, such as modifying the internal foam earpads or re-cabling the cord, resulting in improved sound. Perhaps a minor quibble for us is the solid plastic non-adjustable neckband that -- like other products in this category -- could become a bit uncomfortable for some wearers depending on the size of their particular noggin. We still lean towards the Grado SR60i model as being THE killer entry-level headphone, and it too will work very well in most portable applications despite its slightly larger ergonomics compared to the iGrado.
The iGrado are 'open-back' earcup (NO noise-blocking!) headphones with a one-piece plastic headband that loops around the back of the neck. It's a very stable, secure fit and perfect for fast-paced exercisers, movers and shakers...or if you just don't want to muss up your lovely coiff. The iGrado earpieces are lightly padded with a thin foam material shielding the speaker elements next to the ear. Although it may appear to the naked eye like the earpieces would be able to rotate for fit adjustments, they are actually fixed earcups permanently attached to the neckband. This certainly limits how widely useful they might be for big-head types--like our HeadRoom crew! The impedance rating of the iGrado is 32-ohms, just like the rest of the Grado headphone line, and the claimed frequency response range is a very respectable 20-20000Hz. The iGrado headphones feature an 120-day manufacturer's warranty supported exclusively by Grado Labs located in Brooklyn USA.

Pros: Cost
Cons: Comfort
Beyond the sound, the iGrado is not very comfortable to wear for longer than 30 minutes or so. Also, they would be more practical if they were able to pack flat.
