Frequency Response for the iHarmonix iHX Pro ev-Series

For earphone listeners looking for a comfortable in-ear fit, a balanced but big-kickin' bass presence, and fully defined musical reproduction without spending an entire week's paycheck, iHarmonix has got you dialed. The iHarmonix PRO in-ear monitors are about the lowest-priced in-ear [IEM] headphones we can recommend in good audio conscience as quality upgraded replacements versus the lowly earbuds found in the box with your MP3 player, portable gamer, laptop computer, or Apple iPod. The iHarmonix PRO's bass presence is quite large and warm-toned--but NOT mushy--while the highs remain smoothly rounded and creamy-sounding, so the PROs manage to avoid most 'entry-level' earphone tendencies towards an overly bright, sharp-toned presentation. The iHarmonix PRO's deliver a very pleasantly engaging musical experience leagues above 'stock' earbuds and one that should satisfy all portable music fans seeking strong audio performance and long-lived earphone durability, all at a true bargain price.

The iHarmonix PRO earphones come in a mellow black matte color scheme that's an inconspicuous wear, a nice plus when you want to avoid attracting undue attention. 2 pairs of black expanding memory foam-type eartip sleeves are provided in the packaging. A handy thumb-slider control built right into the PRO's headphone cord allows for quick on-the-fly volume adjustments without needing to dig out your player every time you want the tunes louder or softer. The iHarmonix PRO's 1.3 meter length cord (approximately 4 feet) is a 'Y'-type design and terminates to a gold-plated 3.5mm [1/8"] mini-jack. The 1-year manufacturer's warranty is serviced directly through iHarmonix located in California USA. RoHS compliant.

OK intro to in-ears, but...
Posted by Zhimbo from Queens, NY on 2010-06-22

Recommend Product: No
Pros: Decent sound w/great bass extension, in-line volume control
Cons: wore out quickly

These were my first in-ear phones. The sound of these took a little getting used to - the bass was "punchy" in a sometimes unpleasant way, and they sounded a bit...hard to say, there was a lack of "space". Let's say they sounded very, very much like headphones, not at all like speakers.

Still, they sounded plenty good for my commute, and for certain bass passages in my collection I'd go to these (e.g., the very loud 'n' low bass sweep in Chavez's "The Guard Attacks" was handled absolutely perfectly, and sounded really impressive!). The in-line volume control was a nice bonus feature for this price range.

There are two sets of included tips. The "firm" ones were much too uncomfortable for me, but the more pliable tips fit well and were decently comfortable, and provided a good seal with decent, but not extreme, isolation.

However, a few months after owning them, the sound started cutting out in one ear - the problem was near the jack connection - it's a straight jack, and in portable use it tends to get bent around and stressed a lot. A better reinforced and/or right-angle jack would make more sense.
