Sennheiser HD 201
Just. Simply. Amazing! We have no idea how they did it, but Sennheiser with their HD201 has blown away all price/performance barriers at the extreme low end of the scale in the category of 'full-sized'
sealed headphones. With surprisingly well-balanced sound for a can at this nice price, you'll find it perfect for all sorts of great 'budget' listening uses. Looking for smiles from kids in the back of the van, patients in the dental chair, students in a multi-media classroom, or patrons in the museum? Here's your easy answer.
Product Features:
- Terrifically well balanced sound at this price
- Sealed-back earcup design isolates from outside noise
- Durable construction quality. Great choice for business/educational OR personal listening
- 2-year Sennheiser manufacturer's warranty
What's In The Box:
- 1/4" plug adaptor
Applications:
Our HeadRoom jaws smacked the ground when we first heard this headphone. You have to understand just how terrible most 'cheap' sealed-earcup, full-size cans normally sound but (somehow) Sennheiser got it amazingly right with the sonics of the very inexpensive HD201 headphones. Sure, they're perhaps slightly uneven in spots, but that's really a quibble since they still sparkle and sing in an unusually clean way for a product at this very low pricepoint. The Sennheiser HD201 are perfect gift headphones because the recipient will be amazed at how darn good they sound with any music style. They are also a strong choice for commercial applications like computer labs, audio tours, museums, schools, doctors offices & dental chairs: first, because they're inexpensive; second, because of their durability and, third, because your clients will appreciate the soothing, pleasant experience of high-quality sound. The HD201 are also sized just about right for DVD-playin' kids hanging out in the back of the mini-van too!
Although the Sennheiser HD-201 are a reasonably efficient, low-impedance design, they are not particularly sensitive headphones. So those seeking to plug these directly into an iPod, iPad, laptop computer, MP3 player or other portable audio device might find they have to set the player's volume near maximum to get decent listening levels into the HD-201; perhaps a good thing to save youngsters hearing! Of course, any headphone amp will easily overcome this issue while also dramatically upping the detail clarity, musical punch, and dynamic extension of this inexpensive can. The plastic HD201 headphone construction is rather plain, but beneath its black & grey utilitarian exterior you'll find highly durable build quality to withstand the rigors of being knocked around the home/office/dorm room for a long time to come. The black & matte-silver earcups have mid-sized circular pleather earpads that will surround the ears on most wearers. These mid-sized circumaural ("around the ear") earcups attach via a simple system that tilts & swivels slightly and also slides up & down into the connecting headband in order to adjust for sizing/overall fit. The Sennheiser HD201 has a fairly long 9ft [non-detachable] cable that connects in a "Y" to both earcups and terminates in a 1/8" (3.5mm) 'mini' plug jack. An adapter to a full-size 1/4" inch stereo jack is handily included in the Sennheiser package. Free 2 year manufacturer's 'repair or replace' premium warranty included with your HeadRoom 'authorized dealer' purchase receipt!

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: cheap as chips, comfortable, neat, balanced sound
Cons: bass missing, clarity missing
So, no bass. And also other 'phones have better clarity. But most of the time you don't miss what you don't hear and what these headphones do play they play in a remarkably balanced and natural way, so unless you're comparing them to something better, they're really fine. "Patrons in a museum," etc. as suggested above, yes, absolutely. I'd definitely buy 15 if i needed to kit out a language lab or something. Perfect for that. But for enjoying music they don't cut it.

Pros: Comfort, and Sound... WOW! Astonished
Cons: Need a little more power than my MP3 player
How else could headphones sound THIS good, for about 25 bucks, have been made?
They are amazing. I bought them to play video games after my son is asleep. They sounded much better than what I had been using. Then it happend; one day I plugged them into my laptop...and listened to Also Sprach Zarathustra (Philips recording of John Williams conducting the Boston Pops) It was open and warm, rock solid mids, balanced warm bass, and razor-sharp highs. I was stunned! Want to hear detail? The sound of orchestra members turning pages, even the tiny little noises of flute or clarinet keys and pads. Brass? Strings? Overtones and harmonics... for under 30 bucks? They are not the HD800s. But I think these are THE bargain headphones... or a "gateway drug" into the land of Sennheiser!
