The Sennheiser HD449 takes over from the HD448 as one of the top sealed-back headphones found right smack in the middle of the fiercely competitive $100-to-$150 price strata. Sporting similar sonics and impedance ratings and looking almost the same as its very popular brethren of yore, the HD449 provides a nifty cord extension and manages to sound basically indistinguishable from the (now discontinued) HD448 model. Still, some good stuff from the friendly giant of German headphone powerhouses.

A fresh re-upping of the now-discontinued HD448 model, the Sennheiser HD449 remains the best-sounding headphone Sennheiser has released at this price. Sure, the HD449 are bedecked with a bit of the cool styling increasingly popular in headphone land. But don't let the hip cosmetics fool you. The HD 449 remain serious headphones suitable even for demanding ears. Excellent musical definition, transparent timbral textures and quick dynamics belie this can's within-reach price. The HD 449's nearly weightless neodymium drivers and proprietary Sennheiser Duo-Fol diaphragms produce an airy yet rich tone full of correct musical detail and open soundstage imaging with seamless integration of the music at all frequencies. Full-size closed-back construction offers mild ambient noise attenuation and listening privacy anywhere you want your tunes. Efficient 32 Ohm impedance means the HD449 does not require an amp for great sound quality when used directly from iPod, iPad, iPhone, MP3 players or computers. So another two thumbs-up HeadRoom recommendation of these long-time German headphone gurus!

The Sennheiser HD 449 has circular earpad cushions that will typically gently rest on the outer part of the earlobes on most wearers. It's a highly comfortable full-size design given the ergonomically well-balanced, lightweight feel and 'no-pressure' clamping force of the headband. Expect great long-term wearing comfort from the HD 449 full-size circumaural ('around the ear') soft fabric earpad cushions. The single-sided cord (no 'Y-cord' tangles!) exits at the left earcup and extends about 4ft. Adding the provided [detachable] extension cord brings the maximum cord length to about 9ft. The headphone cords terminate to 3.5mm (1/8") 'mini' plug jacks ideal for nearly all mobile and portable audio sources. A full-size 1/4" gold-plated stereo plug adapter is also handily provided in the package, along with that useful 5ft headphone cable extension cord when needing a longer reach to your audio source. Neat Sennheiser storage/travel pouch included. Wonderful PC Headphones
Posted by Ninj0r from Tokyo, Japan on 2013-04-20

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: GREAT sound stage with balanced and crisp sound
Cons: Not the most durable

The Sennheiser HD 449s are the best all around PC headphones I have ever used.

They have a great crisp sound, with good, but not overpowering, bass. Excellent sound separation and sound stage. These qualities make it great for gaming and video/movie viewing when compared to bass heavy headphones.

These headphones are AWESOME for PC gaming. The sound stage gives a great 3D effect when playing first person shooter games and you can head each individual sound very clearly. They are light and comfortable too, so wearing them for hours at a time is no problem.

For movies and video:
The 3D effect is almost like a mini surround sound system. If you get a chance to demo these headphones, watch a movie clip like "The Lobby Scene" from the first Matrix and you will understand what I mean!

For music:
If you are a bass-head, you might be disappointed; when listening to bass heavy music I prefer headphones like the Sony XB-500. For non-bass heavy genre's, the Sennheiser HD 449's are the go to headphones.

These headphones also come with an extension cord and a carrying bag!

The only con is that the plastic housing feels weak and gets nicked up easily if you travel around with these headphones.

Overall, totally recommended! If you need a pair of headphones dedicated to gaming or your PC, the Sennheiser HD 449 cannot be beat at this price point.

Great sound / value for PC music

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Good sound, comfortable
Cons: cable is somewhat microphonic

Purchased to replace an old pair of HD495s that still sound great but the cushions disintegrated, on balance the 449s are a significant upgrade as well as better suited - for me - for use at my PC to include good sound and low / no sound emissions. Great value for an above average combination of features.

Awesome headphones!

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Sound, Build quality, Comfort
Cons: None that i can find

I've had these headphones for a while now (3-4 months). I got them because the previous version, the 448, was excellent and i wanted to give these a try.

The first thing i noticed was the build quality. It was a complete improvement over the 448's. Sturdy enough to handle falls and flexible enough to fit even the biggest heads. They are very comfortable and can easily be worn for hours on end. My personal record is a drive from Toronto to Montreal.

The sound is balanced and overall very well presented. Everything is clear with little (very very little) to no distortions. The vocals (mids) in particular are amazing. The bass has been improved, it doesn't give a big punch but at the same time it's not too weak. The highs are clear and fantastic. It also has a very big sound-stage. Just amazing sound.

For the price, these headphones are amazing. There is no possible way that i can't recommend these enough.

(UPDATE: I didn't mention this but i used a FiiO E6 connected to a Sony Walkman and Iphone 4S to conduct this review)
