Wonderful top-of-the-line wireless headphone that's great for both high fidelity music listening and TV or movie watching, the Sennheiser RS 180 uses proprietary KLEER digital wireless scheme to provide very high quality and noise-free audio transmission wirelessly from just about any audio source. Naturally, we know the job is only half-done with a seamless wireless link so Sennheiser Electronics finishes it up with amazing sound quality performance from these headphones. The RS 180 are an open-back earcup construction to get the very best quality audio reproduction possible; the open-back earcup design is vented meaning you can still hear what's going around you provided you're not turned up too loud. The RS 180 is a true open-back headphone; when watching TV or movies turn off your TV's main speakers to avoid "latency", an audio phenomenon in which the headphones are working correctly, but you're hearing two audio sources at slightly different times. Amongst the best-performing wireless headphones in the industry and an easy HeadRoom recommendation for quality wireless seekers.

The included RS 180 slim-profile base station looks pretty cool and doubles as the headphone charging bay. It provides a proprietary Auto-Leveling Control that tries to keep the audio at a similar dynamic volume level for all program material -- a VERY handy feature for controlling the booming commercials screeching between your favorite shows. This Sennheiser auto-compression technology also helps with speech intelligibility and clarity of dialogue as well. Also features balance control for right/left volume adjustment. The open back design puts you in the action by delivering the most natural sounding private wireless audio experience possible. It even includes a balance control for the ultimate in listening experience customization. The RS 180 luxurious velour earpads and headband cushions provide exceptional comfort for hours on end. The system will transmit up to about 120 feet on 2.4-2.8gHz, (smartly 'auto-selecting' the transmission channel for best sound quality) and running for about 24 hours on each full charge. A 2 year free manufacturer's warranty remains standard on Sennheiser headphones only when purchased from true authorized dealers  -- like HeadRoom!

Muddy and Veiled
Posted by John Black from Virginia on 2010-10-06

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Wireless, Rechargeable, Great for Home Theater entertainment
Cons: Minimal battery life, Volume dips in and out, Poor music sound quality

Having bought this set and review it heavily for a week after a 200 hour burn-in (non-stop on charger), I can say that that are muddy and veiled at the core. Although they may be the best wireless solution available, for those looking to compare with the sound quality of the HD600 and up, forget that kind of quality ever being produced in a wireless headphone within the next 5-10 years.

Comfortable, and stylish, these do well for folks who need a quiet alternative to a home theater setup or in a crowded apartment complex where excess noise could become an issue with a large speaker system. The only saving grace of this set is the fact that there is no static and the range is absolutely astounding. My personal experience was a range of over 100 feet with no signal loss. That's the farthest I could go line-of-sight and still hear these with no difference in quality. Cut that in half for obstructed areas. A 50 foot radius should be more than enough for most people though.

I tested this set of headphones much as I do all my others, 200 hour burn-in followed by these music styles Rock, Blues, Downtempo, Classical (Baroque), and finally Electronic. My evaluation criteria are based on a reference of the HD650 and the Grado GS1000. These do exceptionally well in the arena of Home Theater entertainment, movies and television. Music or mastering I cannot recommend these for those tasks.

I would certainly recommend these to folks looking for an excellent wireless solution but that would be the only reason. If you are an audiophile that is in need of a highly accurate solution then look elsewhere and stay away from wireless. Take it from someone who works with mastering and re-engineering music and movies all day from 9-5; this is not for that purpose. The sound production capabilities of this headphone are delicate at best, and they must be treated well and tweaked on the source side to achieve optimal results.

best wireless headphones
Posted by pborange from Toronto, Canada on 2010-01-16

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: excellent sound quality (as good as wired)
Cons: a bit large but still very light and comfortable

Fantastic sound quality and absolutely no noticeable reduction in quality due to being wireless. For years I have looked to buy a pair of wireless headphones but every time I tried them I was disappointed with the sound quality (occasional static etc.). I bought the RS 180 based only on other reviews and after 1 month of listening am not disappointed. I would highly recommend. As well, HeadRoom provided extremely fast shipping to Canada. Great store.
