If you only knew how atrocious most sealed-earcup headphones sound, you'd really be amazed at how Germany's beyerDynamic consistently delivers good ones up & down their entire model line. You'd likely also be blown away that they managed to make a very inexpensive pair of sealed headphones that sound as impressive as the DT 231. Though ever so slightly lacking in the mid-ranges, these cans provide clear, non-flabby, non-bloated bass, as well as cleanly extended highs that lack the tonal harshness usually found in cheap-o headphones. Additionally, none of the honky resonances usually found in low-cost sealed headphones are present here. That’s a lot of double negatives, but these headphones are really quite competent sounding and offer excellent 'bang-for-the-buck' value. Style-wise, they're ordinarily utilitarian: grey plastic throughout, with soft fuzzy velour-type earpads, and a mid-size but comfortable 'supra-aural' earcup design. All-in-all, a standout in not only budget headphones, but in the entire sub-$100 headphone category.

The DT 231 use an all-plastic design with velour ear cushions that are just slightly smaller than those on full-sized headphones; It's probably one of the more comfortable portable-application headphones in the entire 'sealed/closed' category. Sizing adjustment is provided via a spring-loaded inner headband made of a soft, rubbery plastic material... Did we mention this is a VERY comfortable headphone?! Low impedance and high efficiency make the DT 231 a good choice for portable audio player applications, like Mp3 devices, iPods and laptop computers. The DT231 have a straight cord that attaches to one earpiece, eliminating nightmarish double "Y" cord tangling. The cable is terminated to a 1/8" [3.5mm] mini-plug and include a full-size 1/4" inch adapter in the package. 2 year manufacturer's product warranty remains standard with all beyerdynamic headphones.
