Sennheiser RS 120

Knowing how noisy and bad most wireless headphone systems have sounded in the past, we were perhaps a tiny bit apprehensive when Sennheiser came out with their recent "low-cost" wireless system. Would they be able to maintain their amazing industry success as with their higher cost headphone products at this affordable 'entry-level' price point? Answer: Yep! The RS120 system sounds quite good for such an inexpensive wireless design, has a solid transmission range, plus includes a cool stand that automatically charges the headphone when simply placed on the stand. The only potential problem with these wireless headphones is that they are not a sealed-earcup (closed) construction, so you will probably be able to hear the vacuum cleaner as you clean house or that noisy street traffic right outside your window. Other than that potential issue, the Sennheiser RS120 gets a hearty wireless headphone recommendation at a nice price.

The RS120 is a well-constructed pair of supra-aural cans (meaning the earcups rest gently "on the ears"). The earpads are made of a soft and fairly comfortable velour-like material; the headband pads are nicely positioned to prevent “hot spots” on top of your head during long listening sessions. The headband contains two tiny metal plates between the headband pads that contact the base station’s headphone hanger and provide the electrical connections needed to auto-charge the unit. In other words: simply hang the cans on the base station and, voila', they instantly start charging . . . nifty! The headband controls are simple and include volume, transmission tuning, and an on/off switch. The base station has no controls; Place the headphone on the hanger, they auto-charge and a LED light appears to indicate charging status; connect the base to any RCA-plug audio line-out source and it immediately activates the base transmitter when it self-detects the presence of any signal. Also included in the RS-120 packaging box is the transmission base's AC power supply and built-in stereo RCA-plug cable to link the base to your audio source's RCA line-out connections.
